How to select a diaphragm

  1. Material Compatibility

    Select an elastomer that is compatible with the operating media, chemicals, oils, gases, or environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance and long service life.

  2. Operating Pressure

    The diaphragm must withstand maximum system pressure and mechanical loads without excessive deformation, extrusion, or structural failure during service.

  3. Operating Temperature

    The selected material must maintain its mechanical and sealing properties throughout the expected operating temperature range. Exposure beyond its recommended limits can significantly reduce performance and service life.

  4. Reinforcement Requirements

    High-pressure or high-load applications may require fabric-reinforcement to improve dimensional stability and mechanical strength. It depends on the pressure requirement and the fabric placement depends on the pressure side. It will either be "One sided Fabric" or "Centre Fabric".

Common diaphragm failures

Fatigue Failure

Repeated cyclic loading gradually weakens the material, eventually resulting in cracks or complete mechanical failure.

Burst Failure

Occurs when operating pressure exceeds the component's design limits, causing the rubber to rupture and resulting in a sudden loss of containment and functionality.

Delamination

In reinforced rubber components, poor adhesion or continuous cyclic loading can cause separation between the rubber and reinforcing fabric layers.
