Case study · Automotive
A leading automotive parts manufacturer needed consistent, high-performance O-rings for demanding engine sealing.
The original O-ring samples suffered from uneven de-flashing, thick parting lines, poor compression set and high filler content.
Harkesh delivered an advanced solution: cryogenically de-flashed O-rings made from 100% pure FKM on a fully automated line — improving engine performance, durability and consistency.
Key outcome:
Cryogenically de-flashed, 100% pure FKM O-rings produced on a fully automated line — delivering a consistent finish, longer life and reliable engine sealing.
The challenge
The original O-ring sample had uneven de-flashing, thick parting lines, poor compression set and high filler content.
For a demanding automotive engine application, these inconsistencies threatened sealing performance, durability and reliability under extreme conditions.
Our approach
We addressed the challenge by providing an advanced solution for their O-ring requirement. We cryogenically de-flashed the O-rings, eliminating flashes and irregularities, and employed a fully automated manufacturing system to ensure consistency, efficiency and precision at every stage.
By using 100% pure FKM (fluoroelastomer), the O-rings delivered exceptional resistance to heat, chemicals and wear while meeting stringent quality standards.
The results
Quality
Consistent finish
Cryogenic de-flashing removed flashes and parting lines, giving a consistent finish that met stringent quality standards.
Durability
Longer lifespan
100% pure FKM and clean parting lines improved durability and lifespan, reducing maintenance needs.
Process
Fully automated
A fully automated line ensured consistency, efficiency and precision across every O-ring produced.
The new O-rings significantly improved the engine's overall performance and reliability under extreme conditions. Eliminating the parting lines and using high-quality material improved durability and lifespan, reducing maintenance needs, while the automated process and cryogenic de-flashing ensured consistent quality across every part.
Materials & application
Questions, answered
Cryogenic de-flashing freezes the moulded O-rings so excess rubber flash breaks away cleanly, leaving no thick parting lines. That gives a consistent finish and better sealing than trimmed or hand-finished parts.
Pure FKM (fluoroelastomer), without excessive filler, gives exceptional resistance to heat, chemicals and wear — the properties an engine-sealing O-ring needs to last under extreme conditions.
A fully automated line removes manual variation, so every O-ring is produced to the same tolerances and finish — delivering the consistency automotive sealing demands.
